Mukilteo Elementary School was built in 1982. The school is located within the City of Mukilteo on 9.8 acres. Permanent square footage is 41,727 and there are ten (10) portable classrooms. A master plan for an entire school replacement including the scope of Phase I has been completed. Phase I will relocate ten (10) existing classrooms into a new building.  The new building will be approximately 19,973 square feet.  The project will include site work consisting of a play area, walkways, fire lane improvements, and landscaping.  New utility services will include a storm detention system.  Construction commenced in Summer 2024 and is anticipated to be complete in the Fall of 2025.

Project Updates

    • Contractor working on punch list as part of closeout for Phase 1.

    • The Mukilteo Elementary Phase 1 project has reached substantial completion.
    • Architect and consultants are reviewing spaces and forming punch lists for the contractor to address. 
    • Landscaping along property buffer is ongoing.
    • Playground install is complete.
    • Sand field restoration is ongoing. 
    • Site fencing is in progress. 
    • Construction trailers have been demobilized.
    • Portable carpet has been replaced, ramps have been installed, and exterior repainted. Fire final is expected mid-August.

    • Landscaping, irrigation, and asphalt paving are underway.
    • A 2-classroom portable was set on the sand field in July. The portable will receive new carpet, furniture and will be repainted in August. 
    • Interior finishes are wrapping up, punch is underway.
    • Final inspections are set for end of August. 
    • Furniture move-in is scheduled for August 4th, followed by staff move-in around mid-August. 
    • Playground turf is underway. 

     

     

    • Playground installation began the week of June 16th. 
    • Interior finishes are progressing; tile in restrooms is 70% complete, casework is 90% complete, wall coverings are 95% done, and mdo is currently being installed.
    • Ceiling grid and interior lighting is underway. 
    • Site work continues on sidewalks and curbs. 
    • Roofing is complete. Punch items are being addressed. 
    • HVAC and Electrical trim out are ongoing. 
    • The district has coordinated move-out of staff located in Building C. Building C will be demolished over summer break. 
    • Rooftop Solar Panels have been installed.

    • Exterior Masonry is complete. 
    • Exterior stairway on the west side of the building is being installed. 
    • Sitework continues on hard surfaces and utilities. 
    • Interior painting and wall covering is underway.
    • Ceiling grid is being installed. 
    • HVAC and electrical work are ongoing throughout the interior. 
    • Power will be connected to the building in early June. 
    • Windows are 90% installed.

    • Rough-in electrical, HVAC, & plumbing is finished - cover inspections are complete. 
    • Masonry on the east and west sides of the building are ongoing. 
    • Exterior metal paneling is progressing, and is expected to be complete by the end of April.
    • Interior sheetrocking is well underway. 
    • Door frames and window installation is 90% complete. 
    • Contractor continues work on forms for walkways and landscape retaining walls.
    • Furniture & technology order has been placed.  
    • Project is on schedule.

    • Site concrete is underway with the forming of ADA Ramps, stairways, and sidewalks. 
    • HVAC, Plumbing and Electrical rough-in is ongoing. Rooftop VAV mechanical units are currently being installed. 
    • Roofing is complete on the north and south wings. Roofing contractor continues their work on the middle section. 
    • Weather barrier installation is ongoing, with completion planned at the end of March. Masonry to follow.
    • The district is reviewing furniture plans with the school and vendor.

    • Site work is underway with sewer installation and forming of retaining walls. 
    • Interior framing, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical rough-in is ongoing. 
    • Exterior sheathing and roofing installation is progressing.

    • Electrical and interior plumbing rough-in is underway. 
    • Interior stud framing started mid-January. 
    • Lower level retaining wall is complete and backfill is underway. 
    • Roofing to commence at the end of January.

    • Structural Steel installation started at the beginning of December and was completed on December 9th. The students celebrated the topping out by signing the last beam. 
    • Welding will continue on the structure for the rest of December. 
    • Work on the site retaining walls are underway.

    • Second floor underground utilities have been installed in the backfilled area. 
    • Waterproofing of the concrete retaining walls is complete.
    • Concrete slab pour of the second floor is scheduled for 11/25. 
    • Steel erection will commence at the beginning of December.

    • Contractor continues installation of forms for footings and foundation walls.
    • 1st floor mechanical room retaining walls have been poured. Contractor is working on upper-level foundation stem walls. foundation work will continue through the end of October and into early November. 
    • Water vapor barrier is being applied to basement mechanical level retaining walls.
    • Underground utility work is underway for the 1st floor mechanical room. 
    • Storm Retention has been smoothed over with topsoil and hydroseed has been applied.  
    • Contractor preparing site for the wet season.

    • Contractor completed excavation of the foundation in September. 
    • Forming of the foundation walls is underway with multiple days scheduled for concrete pours. 
    • Soil backfill of the storm retention is complete.
    • Contractor is prepping site for the upcoming rainy season.

    • The civil contractor removed a large boulder found underground while digging the storm retention vault. 
    • Media filters have been installed (storm vault) and covered over with crushed rock. 
    • Utility work continues onsite.
    • Hard surface area prep is underway in preparation for the start of school in September.

    • Site preparation and excavation is underway.
    • Electrical contractor is installing temporary utility lines to power construction site.
