Serene Lake Elementary School

An informational flyer detailing the 2026 Mukilteo School District Bond Measure, highlighting a $400 million investment and planned updates for Serene Lake Elementary School.

NOVEMBER 3, 2026, CAPITAL BOND FOR SCHOOLS
A proposed $400 million school construction bond will appear on the Nov. 3 ballot and includes projects at every school in Mukilteo School District.

At Serene Lake Elementary School, the proposed bond would fund the next phase of school replacement, including modern safety and security features, updated technology infrastructure, and new building systems.

SERENE LAKE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Serene Lake Elementary School was built in 1969, received a minor modernization in 1994 and an addition in 1996.

2026 CAPITAL BOND FOR SCHOOLS
The volunteer Capital Bond Advisory Committee (CBAC) evaluated and prioritized facility needs across the district to help ensure bond funding focused on the highest-priority projects. For the 2026 bond, the committee recommended $400 million in projects from approximately $975 million in identified needs.

In 2020, the CBAC recommended replacing the school in phases due to aging infrastructure and security risks from detached buildings. Phase 1 was completed in the 2020 bond. During Phase 1 environmental review, as part of the legally required comment period for public projects, tribal partners formally requested that the district explore “daylighting” (bringing to the surface) the existing underground stream. The Phase 1 project was completed based on a required commitment to explore daylighting options for the stream. That work requires coordination between multiple agencies before proceeding with Phase 2 design plans and permits. The 2026 CBAC prioritized a second phase for Serene Lake replacement with completion in a future Capital Bond.  For additional information on the underground stream, please visit the Bond FAQ on the district website.

The proposed 2026 bond includes the following improvements at Serene Lake Elementary School:

Phase 2 of school replacement – Update master plan; design and construct phase 2 building. There are two potential locations for the Phase 2 building:

Concept A – A building connecting to the east side of the newly built Phase 1 building. This will likely be classrooms and support spaces.

Concept B – A stand-alone building where the old Building 200 was demolished. This could be a new gym, multi-purpose room, and kitchen building or classrooms depending on the master plan.

New Playground – New playground will be installed as part of Phase 2.

Safety, security, technology – expand building access controls; network and technology infrastructure

Life Safety Systems – Upgrade fire alarm system
