Language access for families

Mukilteo School District believes in the value and importance of strong family partnerships. School and district staff must communicate with families in a language they can understand. This includes notifying parents/guardians whose primary language of communication is not English, or who are multilingual learners, about programs, services, and activities in a language they can understand. The district’s Language Access Plan helps ensure that Mukilteo School District provides high quality and appropriate language services to parents and guardians.

Daily communication:

For day-to-day communication, we use tools that allow for translation including school and district websites and ParentSquare. School and district offices are also equipped with translation and interpretation devices to better assist all families who visit in person. Staff also have access to Language Line interpretation services for phone conversations.

Events and conferences:

For school and district events, including family-teacher conferences and IEP meetings, we often ask families if they would like an interpreter and make the interpretation arrangements for the family. However, families may also request an interpreter for a school or district event through one of the following methods:

Our district contracts with several translation and interpretation services which include online, phone, and in-person options depending on the families’ needs and the interpreters’ availability.

Important documents:

The district provides translations of critical documents in the most widely spoken languages in the district including registration materials, the Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook, etc., Families may need translation services for other documents or in a language not yet provided. To request translation of a school record or communication, please contact the Language Access Coordinator through the contact methods listed above.
