Serene Lake Elementary School was built in 1968 with some renovations in 1994 and 1996. The school is located within the Unincorporated Snohomish County on 10.0 acres. Permanent square footage is 49,230 and there are four (4) portable classrooms. This project will be Phase I of a full school replacement. Phase I will include construction of a new two-story classroom building, approximately 15,600 square feet, containing eight (8) classrooms and support spaces.  Site improvements to support the new facility will include a new water main, fire hydrants, connections to utilities such as sewer and storm water, walkways and landscaping.  Building 200, containing classrooms, will be demolished at the end of the project.  The district anticipates construction starting in Summer 2024 and completion in winter 2025-26.

Project Updates

    • Sand field restoration is complete and opened to the Serene Lake community on February 14th
    • Landscape work continues along the west side of the property. 
    • Building 200 demo and site restoration is scheduled for July.

    • Students and staff moved into their new classrooms after Mid-Winter Break. 
    • Landscape around the building is complete.
    • Interior finishes are complete.
    • Punch list items are underway. 
    • Civil and landscape work along the south end of the property will be done in the spring. 
    • Sand field restoration will be complete once work is done onsite. 

    • Hardscapes are being formed and poured around the building.
    • Lighting trim out is underway. 
    • Wall coverings and tackable surfaces have been installed.  
    • Casework installation is complete. 
    • Interior doors are being hung. 
    • Flooring installation began at the end of December. 
    • Commissioning of Mechanical, lighting and electrical is ongoing.

    • Classroom casework installation is currently in progress.
    • Lighting installation and programming are ongoing.
    • Exterior metal panel installation is approximately 85% complete.
    • The contractor is finishing mechanical and electrical trim-out.
    • Exterior hardscape work is scheduled to begin in early December.
    • Restroom tile installation is moving forward.
    • Sunshades were installed in mid-November.

    • Exterior sheet metal flashing and wall panels are 90% complete.
    • Ceiling grid installation will be finished by the end of October. 
    • Bathroom tile is underway.
    • Elevator installation is ongoing. 
    • A/V and data are being pulled to new IDF room.

    • Frontage improvements, including sidewalks, curbs, utilities and asphalt are 90% complete along Picnic Pt. Road. Landscaping will occur in early October. 
    • Exterior facade metal paneling is underway.
    • Mechanical and electrical room build-out is ongoing. 
    • Sheetrocking is complete.
    • Ceiling grid work started mid-September.

    • Frontage improvements are ongoing. Waterline work is underway and will be connected to the campus mid-August. New sidewalk and landscape improvements are underway and will be ready for the start of school. 
    • Masonry is complete on the north elevation. The masons are now working on the south side of the new facility. 
    • Window installation is underway.
    • Mechanical work is in progress. 
    • Interior sheetrock is 50% complete.

    • HVAC, Plumbing and Electrical rough-in is ongoing. Rooftop mechanical units have been installed. 
    • Roofing is complete.
    • Masonry on the North elevation is ongoing. 
    • Weather barrier installation is ongoing, with completion planned at the end of July.
    • The district is reviewing furniture plans with the school and vendor. 
    • Interior sheetrock is underway. 
    • Frontage improvements along Picnic Point Rd. and underground utility work began in early July. 

    • Interior wall framing is ongoing. 
    • Exterior sheathing is underway and will be complete by the end of June. Weather barrier will follow. 
    • Roofing installation began the week of 6/16.
    • MEP rough-in is ongoing.

    • Steel erection and decking are complete. 
    • Interior stair tower and elevator shaft framing are complete, stairs have been installed. 
    • Plumbing and mechanical work are ongoing. 
    • Stud framing to start the first week of June.

    • Underground utilities around the new building are complete. Work continues along the west side of the property.
    • Concrete slab was poured in early April.
    • Structural steel erection is underway, with completion anticipated in late April.

    • Site work continues with installation of retaining walls and underground utilities.  
    • Underground rough-in for underslab utilities are complete. Vapor barrier and slab prep are ready for concrete slab pour at the end of March. 
    • Contractor will install structural steel in April.

    • Civil contractor continues their work on storm detention vault, sewer and grading. 
    • Foundation footings are underway. Forms and rebar in place, with planned concrete pours in mid-February.

    • Contractor has fully mobilized on the site. 
    • Civil sub has completed access road up to the construction site on the west side of the property. 
    • Geopiers are complete for foundation stabilization. 
    • Site excavation is currently underway. Forms for concrete footings are being constructed.

    • All county permits have been issued.
    • The contractor will mobilize onsite beginning December 23rd. Site fencing will be installed and clearing/grading will be underway over winter break. 
    • Contractor trailer was placed onsite December 16th
    • The trail from the Wingate neighborhood onto the district property will be closed over winter break. Community will need to take the north trail for the duration of construction.

    • The last of the permits are being issued by the county.
    • Construction will kickoff over Winter Break at the end of December. Expect the contractor to erect fencing around the construction site, and a construction trailer will be placed at the southwest corner of the site. 
    • The trail from the Wingate neighborhood onto the district property will be closed over winter break. Community will need to take the north trail for the duration of construction. 

    • The Serene Lake Phase 1 project received bids on October 3rd and 8th. The School Board is set to approve the sub-contractor contracts on October 22nd. 
    • Permit documents are being reviewed by local jurisdictions. 
    • The project contractor, Spee West, is coordinating site logistic plans with the school district. 

    • Project went out to bid on September 3rd. Bid opening is scheduled for October 3rd and 8th. 
    • Snohomish PUD and communication providers completed their work relocating the utility poles along Picnic Point Road. 
    • Construction is scheduled to commence in December. 

    • Utility pole relocation and removal continues along Picnic Point Road.
    • Permit documents under review with county. 

    • Project permit documents are in 2nd round review with Snohomish County. 
    • SnoPUD is working on utility pole relocation and underground utility line boring. This work is being done in preparation for street frontage improvements and the start of construction.
