The entrance to an athletics building with the word 'ATHLETICS' above the doors. The district held the grand opening of phase 1 of the Explorer Middle School Physical Education Center on Tuesday. Students and their families, staff and community members heard from speakers about the project and toured the new state-of-the-art facility. See what the Everett Herald had to say about the event: The Herald.

At the heart of the completed Phase 1 are a full-size gymnasium, auxiliary gym, modern fitness room, track, field and dedicated support spaces. These improvements enhance physical education, strengthen athletic programming, and offer flexible indoor space for both school activities and community events.

While designed to meet the needs of students, the new facilities also create meaningful opportunities for community use, including after-school programming, youth sports leagues, and wellness initiatives. The project reflects a strong investment in shared community spaces that promote health, engagement, and pride across the broader community.

Phase 1 was made possible by the 2020 Capital Bond, which continues to support local jobs and modernize school facilities throughout the district.

Voters will have the opportunity to consider funding Phase 2 of the Explorer Middle School project in the upcoming election in February, which would continue the work of improving educational spaces and expanding community access across the campus.
