SUMMER EBT BENEFITS

Sun Bucks Washington logoWashington state is launching Summer EBT, “SUN Bucks,” a new grocery benefit program that provides families $120 for each eligible school-aged child to purchase groceries when school is out. This new, permanent program is in addition to free summer meals mentioned above.

This year, Summer EBT cards will NOT be sent to all students attending CEP (free meal) schools; they will only be sent to students in the district with Free and Reduced Lunch Status. If students and families believe they can qualify for Free/Reduced status, they must submit a Family Income Survey (all schools except Kamiak) or a Free and Reduced Application (Kamiak Students only) by June 21. Our school district will upload our free and reduced data to the state shortly after this due date. Summer EBT cards will be sent to the student’s address on file with the school district.

Who is eligible for Summer EBT benefits?
Students enrolled at any time during the 2023–24 school year and
  1. Students determined to be eligible for free or reduced-price school meals through a school meal application (KAMIAK STUDENTS ONLY)
  2. Students enrolled at a school that operates the Community Eligibility Provision and been determined eligible for free or reduced-price school meals through the ParentSquare Family Income Survey (ALL SCHOOLS EXCEPT KAMIAK)
  3. Students determined to be eligible for free or reduced-price school meals through direct certification:
    • Assistance Programs Households (Basic Food, TANF, FDPIR, and Medicaid) and
    • Other Source Categorical Eligible (Foster Care, Homeless, Migrant, ECEAP, Head Start or Even Start)
When will households receive their Summer EBT cards?
DSHS plans to issue SUN Bucks beginning late-June through the end of August 2024. Within this period, children may receive benefits at different times depending on how they qualify. Once qualified, children will receive an approval notice and SUN Bucks EBT card within 7 to 10 business days via U.S. Mail.

Any student who misses the June 21 deadline for the district upload may apply for SUN Bucks directly through the DSHS website
